CULTURE

Despite being home to 1,955 people, Rumberpon has a unique culture and traditions. Although heavily influenced by the various cultures around them, their culture and traditions have been shaped by the coastal, island and sea environments that surround them.

Wamesa and Sough are the languages of the Rumberpon people. The Wamesa people used to be the makers of large traditional boats used for the transportation of goods and people. These have been formed over the centuries, producing crafts that are very suitable for various sea conditions. Traditional cuisine is heavily based on fish, sago and coconut.

Music and dance has featured bamboo flute music and traditional dance as well as modern dance. There is a rich craft tradition of wood ornaments and coral carving is a craft that has been passed down for generations.
