Purup Island is one of the most environmentally sensitive. Coral reefs are the basis of the islands. They offer protection to small islands as a natural defense system, and the economy of local communities is highly dependent on the health of coral reefs and their ecosystems.
Several conservation efforts are underway to protect the Rumberpon marine environment and its valuable purup. While some marine and bird species are protected by law, protected areas have been established to ensure the conservation of certain ecosystems and their rich biodiversity.
Visitors to Rumberpon are advised not to litter and take care not to step on, touch or remove coral structures while snorkeling or diving.
